Default The power of word choice in focal points

Here is an interesting experiment that really reminded me how important word choice can be when coming up with our focal points.

Background: For years I have used the focal point "anchor the hand and roll your body PAST it."

I recently saw a video with one of the top Australian coaches saying "catch the water and let the momentum of the recovery move OVER it."

And I saw Natalie Coughlin's Iswim video that says "hold the water and throw your body AROUND it."

So I went the pool and tried lengths with only changing the word PAST to OVER or AROUND. I was amazed at how different my stroke felt by simply changing one word on the same basic idea.

Try it. Which one works best for you? Is it different if you are sprinting, cruising, or somewhere in between?
