Default A technical swimsuit

Anybody know where I might be able to find a non-FINA-approved technical suit? Obviously, they are banned from any competition because of FINA adopting the new regulations, but I just wanted to try one out to see how one feels when swimming in one while swimming laps, now that I finally "figured out how to swim well" with the help of TI. I checked some online resale sites like eBay with no luck, so I thought I would post this here.

Or will I not find one because they have been "destroyed" to prevent people from acquiring one.

Are you looking for one of the full body suits like they wore in the late 2000's? If so, you could try a triathlon wet suit, pretty much the same thing.

For something that's cut like a current suit, but of a non-FINA-legal material, there are the Blue Seventy Core shorts and many other similar options. Triathletes often use these to train in the pool. Gives them some lift like a wet suit, but without the heat retention issues that can be problematic in a warmer environment.

Gary,

Thank you for that information. I am looking for the full-body suit. I never thought they were like a wetsuit, but more of a space age fabric. Anyway, I have swam in wetsuits before, so if that is what it feels like, then okay :)

Check out eBay. All sorts of things show up there.
The closest modern equivalent is what they call a "swim skin". Many triathletes buy them for warmer events where a wetsuit either isn't allowed or would just be too warm.

E.T.A.: Wow, those old full body suits seem to be collector's items now! This guy is asking over $1000 for one.

Typing "full body fastskin" into the search function on eBay gets you a lot of older style technical swimsuits. As well as lots of smartphone covers and some truly creepy baby dolls.

I had a Speedo LZR it was amazing the poly suits didn't have near the buoyancy aid say a wetsuit or buoyancy shorts do. Uncomfortable as heck you literally had to be poured into it tight is an understatement. It was so slick though and if you had good technical strokes it was unreal. Breaststroke has always been my nemesis and I could even swim a decent 50 breast with my LZR. The first time I wore it was in practice a few weeks before a meet still tired and untapered and at the conclusion of practice. To this day I remember it like it was yesterday 26.10 50 fly off a push. My pr was a 27.high at the time rested off the blocks.

If you can find one that hasn't been stretched out and doesn't cost a car payment it might be fun to try.

As you might have seen, Rhoda found one on eBay, which the seller is asking over $1000. Yes, I definitely wanted to try one for fun if I could have found one for "significantly" less. It apparently is hard to find one, so I have given up on the idea for the mean time.

Default Anybody willing to part with a FINA non-approved suit?

I am wondering if anyone is willing to part with a FINA non-approved full-length "john" style Swimskin or similar technical suit. I recently acquired a kneejohn; the sizing chart for TYR indicated it would fit especially when my actual body size is smaller than the size of the suit, so that is why I bought it. Yet it digs deep into my shoulders, which proves it is actually too small, as much as I know they are designed to compress really tight; this is simply too short in the torso area which causes the digging in. The fact men's kneejohns are no longer approved by FINA, I intended on using it as a "practice" racing suit. I now am looking to acquire a suit that actually fits, and looking for one with full-length legs. I am now going to go one more size up with the idea it will not dig into my shoulders.

If anyone has a size 32 and willing to part with it for a reasonable and fair price, please send me a private message.

I found a suit which actually fits (a Speedo Kneeskin), yet I got to thinking about all of this FINA stuff. It is to my understanding that officials felt these suits gave swimmers an unfair advantage, so that's why they were banned. Now, I am wondering what the difference is in the fact women are permitted to wear technical body suits (Kneejohns), when men cannot; other than modesty reasons. Is it because of the possible financial circumstances that some people are unable to afford technical suits? Is that ultimately the unfair advantage? In the early days of swimming, men wore body suits (obviously were made out of wool), then came along the brief style racer until roughly 20 years ago. Why can't the suit manufacturers just change the type of fabric that is not so "space age"? My intent here is not to complain, but merely state that I find swimming in the suit I acquired a pleasure rather than a struggle; I finally find it extremely fun to swim, nothing like gliding through the water with ease.
