![]() I just read through the Mission Statement thread and near the end I came across Terry's list of important TI standards. It was #4 that first brought me to TI.
"4. Close the loop by linking brain function and adaptation to all of the preceding - making the point that if you hope to swim well and live well you should be curious about and at least moderately familiar with how the brain works, not just how the muscles do." I was watching a lecture he gave, 10 parts or so, when he mentioned the nervous system and how the stroke is learned. I have been told of this learning of the brain in other forms and have practice it as well. If Terry had not made this short point I think I would or could have moved on to some other form of swim teaching method, but I stopped here at TI. So I entered google and found this direct and to the point explanation of how the brain learns. A skating web site.... http://www.londonskaters.com/article-muscle-memory.htm and so I do my focused repeats, now up to 50 yards at a time, patiently waiting and tramping a new path across the grass. |

![]() Tab,
Thanks for the info. Interesting how the brain functions.
