Default right good side, left bad side

I'm working my way thru the Self Coaching - 3 weeks in - and to my right it all seems so natural, almost intuitive, and i pick up the drills including breathing, easily - to my left i am like a novice swimmer in everything after skate mb before i'm not sure, anything with breathing, my head dunks under instead of rotating easily with body, timing is difficult etc -

until recently i was a right sided only breather which is likely some of the explanation

plus mb contribution of 10 yr old right side back injury now totally better but may have created asymmetric movement patterns overall for me - (in fact residual pain from this with my 'old swimming' is what has drawn me to TI - i can swim a - slow - mile easily without fatigue but with increasing back pain in my old style but with even my messy beginner TI work i have no back pain)

Is a big degree of a left right difference common?

should i practice the drills primarily to the left to help that side core balance /rotation etc catch up? I have been doing that over the past several swims with frustrating but slow improvement within the drills if i do them very slowly, and no carryover yet to whole stroke. Maybe it just takes more time? i can do that if that's the likely way to go - or if that at least seems a reasonable direction to try - bc i can do them on the right easily i have a built in teacher -

but if this is really unusual and could be reflective of some other big movement problem you all see a lot that would be good to know too

Thanks so much for all you do -

Hello KarenE,

...Is a big degree of a left right difference common?...
Think everyone of us has to deal with it more or less. And swimming an effortless mile is what many of us wishes for ourselfs.

2ct from a non Coach:

- Do the drills so long as you need to get an acceptable symmetry. (So you have to focus on your left side a little bit more and often.)

- Get this symmetry by objective standards. An extern buddy or a video. Because especially right and left side felt unbalances turn out sometimes as the bad felt side is the better one from outside.

Best regards,

you are not alone, when skating on my right I feel in total balance, but cant seem to balance on my left, when swimming whole stroke I cant for the life of me get my left hand to spear the way I want it too,its weird my left hand wont do what I want it too since I'm left handed.
