Cool Dead Last

Today I finished my longest swim ever (7K), the Waikiki Double Roughwater. I did the Roughwater at the beginning of September with my best time of 1h 16min. I finished about middle of the pack for my age group and overall. I was inspired to try the longer distance by reading the posts on this forum.

Different caliber of swimmer for the Double. At the turn buoy I was second to last. I figured I would take about 3h. (Double my roughwater swim of 1:16 and add some for tiredness) My final time for today's race was 2h 36m. Not bad but I was last. More important was I think my stroke stayed together almost the whole way and I feel like I could have swam further. Next year I'll just have to pick up the pace a little.

Long live the challenge!

PS: I saw a shark for the first time while racing (I've seen them other times). Just a little 2-3 foot guy about 40-50 feet below me.

super cool story! thats the kind of thing I aspire to, so thanks for sharing that. I really can't imagine swimming 7km at all, let alone worry about whether anyone beat me...

Default Congrats!

ewa, what an awesome accomplishment! Congrats on completing such a challenging swim. I'm sure you'll be on the podium next year showing the great stroke that is TI!

My best to you!

Default sorry commander

you seem to have experienced mission creep! you started glad to finish in 3 hours -you beat that by 13%, keeping nearly the same pace as last year at double the distance, without exhaustion or stroke breakdown and you're worried?

those other people were just there to distract the sharks!

Maybe I'll do the double next year, and then you will probably be second to last!

This sounds like something I'd like to do next year too!
