![]() I struggle with this too.
What I find helps is to focus on 2 things, breathing sooner in the cycle, when I am still pushing forward with the spearing arm, and breathing faster, what Terry calls 'sneaky breath.' Turning my head as little as possible and as quickly as possible, to shorten the time. Greg |

![]() Try some short repeats where instead of breathing, you simply rotate your head and look towards where you think the air is. The first few times it will feel wierd, but then as you stroke and leave your lead arm suspended out front, you'll get used to roating to look...rotate just a little further and there will be air to sip on. You just have to get used to the fact that you don't need to push up to get air...it's there even when your head is lower down.

![]() Working on some balance drills may also help. Not being able to maintain a long stretched out arm when breathing is usually a balance problem .

![]() In another thread called '25 meters 12 strokes' Suzanne posted a pdf. file of a great way to practice the Nodding Drill. I think this will help you with your balance and arm drop a lot. Check it out.

Rather than thinking swimming isn¨t for you, just allow it to take some time, and look for small incremental improvements. Know that thousands of people, many of them on this forum have been exactly where you are now and felt the same initially. Keep going and use this place as required. At the end of the day its not just about swimming, it goes deeper. Good practice and hope you start to enjoy it soon. |
