6SPL 7SPL camera not on him 10 SPL obviously plodding 43s? it just makes a mockery of the rest of us? the pool looks ridiculously small when they swim in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEvSm6xerS4 |

![]() I'm pretty sure that was short course yards, not meters. Still impressive, though.

![]() Thats a normal powerfull stroke,. Is Lochte also converted to straight arm now?
Like Danny said, 10 yards above water left in 6-7 strokes. Still find the russion guy the most extreme. He surges forward on every pull, but stays very streamlined in between. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DNDkGkhV1A Phelps etc could swim this way too if they wanted. ![]() I know this is fly but I was impressed at the time and still am:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmf9qrod9Qg I was really thinking of the 200 fly when Michael Rock managed to beat Phelps, but I can't find it. Here's the 100m Free: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNNE0sfoWYY |

![]() Talking about elites.
A traditionals swim coach opinion on Sun Yangs stroke. Some people might disagree :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKl2RpgVBEs |

This is unlikely to be an accident, as he seems so perfected (from a TI viewpoint) in other ways. So, assuming he does this deliberately, why does he (as well as other sprinters) do this? What's the advantage? |

![]() Thorpe was even worse.
Schoeman doesnt look forward much, Shinji also looks forward a bit. Between certain limits this could be a personal choice. My little theory is that its ideal to keep the head at the same height in breathing and nonbreathing position in the arrowlike nonloping stroke. Breathing head position will always be a bit higher (Sun Yang), so to even out looking a bit forward gives the same head position for balance in the non breathing time. Thats how it felt to me sometimes. If head position changes during the cycle you get a small vertical wave in the stroke. Maybe some dont want that. Its interesting to try looking very much forward and breath as low as possible, and compare this to looking down when not breathing and breathing with a tilted head. In Thorpes case some think looking forward was to give his size 17 feet some extra water to give extra power to his kick. Thats the opposite of this clip, where he wants to kick air to increase kickspeed. Thorpe had a much lower strokerate, so both could still be true. These sprinters often have a very wide kick. Not ideal for streamlining I would think, but in sprinting the optimal power/drag compromise gives another stroke as the longdistance variaty. Its hard to regognize the stroke shown in the clip in his actual racing stroke. Imagine fitting in a 6BK at this strokerate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTM_kcT7cd8 Last edited by Zenturtle : 02-13-2016 at 07:43 AM. |
