![]() Thanks for your responses.
The swimmer definitely didn't over rotate. I think my plan of speaking to the coacher whilst the other swimmer was doing a 50, might have been the best way to proceed. |

![]() As far as rolling is concerned - I know when I roll my shoulders forward during the recovery phase with a high elbow I can definitely feel my body feeling longer and getting more of a glide out of the stroke as well as feeling more relaxed.
check this out, not from TI but good swimming principles and its got a neat little roll over animation :) http://www.swimsmooth.com/rotation.html Last edited by seungew : 10-28-2010 at 07:43 PM. |

![]() I would love to see a similar "Mr. Smooth" Animation but TOTAL IMMERSION STYLE.
Something we can put on an iPHONE / PC Desktop and watch during the day. I do not like this Mr. Smooth because it looks like the kick has nothing to do with the Body rotation, they are just 2 different "Departments". In addition it does not spear at an angle. ALEX |

![]() Mr Smooth is far from perfect. For one thing he doesn't reach fully. For another his kick has no flick to it and so looks disengaged, as noted above.
More generally, watching a computer-generated graphic is useful only on the assumption the animator has captured all relevant detail. Anyone here comfortable making that assumption? Shinji and Terry's videos remain the best demonstrations I'm aware of. |

![]() Definetely.
To properly animate a CG human body from scratch is immensely difficult. To that purpose often a motion capture suit is used instead... infact wouldn't it be fantastic tool if Shinji and/or Terry would don one of those suits and produce a crisp rendering of their graceful swimming? |

![]() ... hey fellow TI'ers - good points. I like the animation just to get the basics across. Though, I like the idea of Shinji or Terry donning a motion capture outfit and just plug'in in their motions into a model.
That would be cool. Perhaps they can sign a deal with Electron Arts Sports :) |
