![]() The title of this post will be true in a month :)
Here is my "before": https://youtu.be/chZqoSOJs9U I'll take any advice you're willing to give, implement it, then I'll post another video on February 20th to see how I do. Thanks in advance, Matt |

![]() Extend ....
your lead arm. Reach further forward. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4iO34K1Ufo thats enough for this month and make a good start. push off like a pro every length https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhRo4I9wReA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fej5IOsR8BU Last edited by Zenturtle : 01-21-2016 at 06:07 PM. |

![]() I'll second that. You seem to be cutting off your full forward extension. I kind of want to pull you from both ends to straighten you out. There's some head wandering, posture slack, spine curvature. Really think of reaching and making a straight line/stick out of your body at each spear-extension.
Having said that, your streamline is good, kick timing, patient lead hand - so you have a good foundation to work on. Nice job. |

![]() Thank you for that feedback. I didn't realize how much I was fish tailing until I recorded myself. I need to focus on having "wide tracks" and as has been suggested really extend my leading arm. I also noticed that my right leg gets a bit wild sometimes, so I need to control that too.
Thanks again, and any other advice is much appreciated! |

@Zenturtle: It feels that guy in the video has very tense neck, looking forward and head is not relaxed at all (as opposed to TI style). Just curios if my observation is valid. Thanks. |

![]() HI, Kirill
Well, these non TI videos will show swimmers doing things that are not exactly in line with TI teachings. His kick timing is also a bit weird, the girls has a straight arm recovery etc. Its about the general message, or showing a part of the stroke what the thread is about. On top of that, I m no TI coach, just someone who likes to swim and chat about it. He looks a bit forward OK. If that isnt hurting his balance and he can live with a bit extra neck strain I have no problem with it. Shinjii isnt looking straight down either. But as said, this clip isnt about head position, its about extending. And staying with Goswim, I can agree on their opinion about head position https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyCIWlgUuhY Where do you see a very tense neck? Are you in a swim team? Very good beginning stroke. I'd continue to use the superman glide on the push off as it allows you to check arm position, head position (straight down) and allows you to relax before you start your swimming for that length. I agree that you could use a little more extension of the arms. Do this through extending through the auxiliaries (armpits). This extension creates a tight line on that side of the body which you hold while you start recovery on the opposite side. This will help in keeping you from fishtailing. Actively engage your core from hips to chest front and back to also keep you tall in the water. You do a good job of keeping your head flat on the water while breathing but, have a slight lift. Try to keep it flat with one eye out and one eye under. The biggest thing I see is that you are still quite heavily a hand led recovery versus a elbow lead swinging out the side. Think of your armpit/shoulder as the hinge and you are moving your elbow out away from the body to the side exposing/opening your armpit to the air. Versus lifting your elbow up to the roof. You have a good foundation going for the patient lead arms and front quadrant. Hope this helps keep us the practicing. |
