his stroke has developed more towards Sun Yangs style compared to 3 years ago.
http://www.swimsmoothforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2349 the high turnover swimmers may not like his stroke and i also think it takes a lot of strength ( he looks like bodybuilder compared to 3 years ago, certainly for a distance swimmer) to swim fast with such a long stroke, but it seems to work for him. Nice Joel! 28min 1500m, solid time. It won't be long before you hit 25min and then 23min.
Mack doesn't have a Sun Yang stroke, but has found the right stroke length and tempo given his height and skill to swim his fastest 400m. Both Sun Yang and Mack Horton however, clearly demonstrate minimum movement and minimized drag = faster speed. Slower tempo, increased stroke length, reduced effort is a choice and obviously a very wise choice. Stuart

I see the side slowmo underwater footage in the thread starter is the same as the old one from the australian race that I posted. That one looks pretty Sun like for me.

you can do it like Horton, or do it in a different way.
This guy was faster than Horton in the 1500 m heats. A normal build 1.78 height , 68 kg weight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWwXr7s_l-E (pink cap) I cant draw any conclusion which style is better for olympic long distance purposes And is Hortons stroke also suited for open water? Wilimovskis slightly adapted to open water stroke is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v41dvw-fDlQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvOcGedDW0k Paltrinieri was a lot faster in the pool. Is that the best style to imitate? Wilimovsky has the most avarage elite stroke. Horton and Paltrinieri have the outlier strokes.
