Try a series of 10x 50 where you count strokes and move tempo as follows

I can almost guarantee your SPL at 2nd 1.6 (9th 50) will be lower than on 1st 1.6 - and perhaps still lower on #10 @ 1,5,

Slowing, then restoring tempo will optimize your stroke more than nearly any tempo exercise.
