Monday 5 Sept - Labor Day - 2400 LCM at Ulster County Pool

Terry's Vibrant Health Practice-3200M Pool and Lake

I'm changing the heading of my blog (formerly Zero Cancer Swimming) to the affirmation Vibrant Health Swimming (or maybe Health and Vitality Swimming). I'm using that header for the first time in...

Exploring Tempo and SPL in a 50m pool

I've swum nearly every day this week but haven't posted simply because I've been revisiting the practices I did last week. I'm recovering slowly from something that really cut into my stamina and...

How far in front is indeed pace-dependent. Because I included a Mail Slot FP yesterday I was probably slightly shorter and steeper on entry.

One Week; Four Practices: Lake-Pool-Lake-Pool

It's been three weeks since I posted. Most of that time I've been laid a bit low by a combination of gastroenteritis and cellulitis. Both probably due to low white blood cell count following chemo. I...

Suzanne
Great analysis and advice. I would make virtually the same adjustments, except staying with 400m repeats, though it means I'm not as fresh later in the set. This is simply because on 200m...

Stuart, there is a cable, a bit less than 200m long. Salvo, the lake is mostly protected from wind because it's narrow and tucked between hills on one side and a high cliff on the other. It's open at...

5 x 400m in Lake Minnewaska

For a variety of reasons too complex to go into now, I haven't posted anything on this thread in over three months. However I plan to practice-with-purpose for the rest of the summer and to post my...

A Recovery-Oriented Practice

Thurs 13 April -- 2300y at SUNY

After exerting myself a bit last night, I knew I needed to do something fairly restorative this morning. I'm not in a place where I can swim at a 4-of-5 effort on...

Certainly some of my ability to hold a particular pace comes from sets where I do push myself. Most often that will be in the final repeat or two.

But I think most of that ability comes from sets...

Wed 13 April 2400y at SUNY

Two weeks from tomorrow, I swim my first race at Masters Nationals--1650y free. So I have only a few more opportunities to practice/imprint the paces I would like to race...

Tom
I spent nearly 10 years-mid 90s to early 00s--swimming with a too-low stroke count. But it felt good and imprinted some good habits. That was 11-13 SPL in 25y. I didn't race in the pool at that...

Wow, that's a low SPL. At 6' even my practice range is 15-18 SPL in 25m. If you added a stroke or two, you'd probably be closer to the paces I swam yesterday.

A TI version of USRPT on 50m repeats

Monday 11 April 2000m in a 25m pool

Tuneup

Sal
I allowed myself 4 beeps between final stroke going into the turn and first stroke coming out, on all 3 turns. But I did manage to shave a stroke on the 4th lap.

Consistent-Pace 100m repeats on diminishing rest

Sunday 8 April -- 1300m in a 25m pool
Today was quite a busy day, but I was just able to squeeze in a 25-minute practice at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. I made the most of it with a very simple...

Practicing Care-full and Hyper-Focused Swimming

Sat 9 April -- 3100m in a 25m pool

I haven't posted in over 10 days. I think I only had the opportunity to do 2 practices in that time--not optimal practice frequency with just weeks to go before...

Distance Ladder--Maintain SPL and Even or Better Pace

Wed 30 March 1700y at SUNY New Paltz

These are great questions. In fact your questions and the answers to them probably give me enough material for another blog.

SPL: did you match your planned count? Or took fewer strokes than...

Returning to Practice

I was away from the pool for nearly two weeks. I severely burned my right hand in a cooking mishap on Mar 12, the morning of the 1650 race in which I broke the Adirondack 60-64 record. Though the...

Gradually Raising Tempo

Tues 15 March 3200scm at Nassau County Aquatic Center
This pool offers both 25y and 25m courses, whenever it's not set up for 50m swimming. I always opt for scm on those days because it's a tiny bit...

On that day I wasn't using a TT. Just counting strokes and taking time. Most accurate would be if I had someone watch me training a set like that and timed the interval between final hand-hit...
