I'll be swimming a few short course races (SCM) in a couple of weeks, including the 50, 100 and 200 free. The meet opens with the 200m so that will tell me how my training has been working. My entry times are all incredibly slow by normal standards even for my age group but I'm hoping to come close to my SC PBs.
I'll try to apply your approach of delayed deceleration.
I know I don't do nearly enough practice on dives and turns, but until I can actually swim a bit faster I think maybe that can wait.
