Hello from North Carolina , Since I grow up South of Montreal on the side of Richelieu River , I had my 1st "Polar Bear swim at age 18 in mid february . on a cloudy day by 10' degrees . Went I broke through the thin ice ,surprise , for a moment the water fell warm .
Since then I did many more cold water immersion and swimming . Now living in NC ,I have the perfect weather to swim 10 minutes in water temperature of 42-50 or immerse 2-3 times a week for the last 3 Years. Just last Saturday I did it by about 35' also 10 minutes including some walking , hey at 74 years "young" you need to love it.

{Cold Water Immersion against Cancer by Richmond University} is the site that give detailed information on the value of cold water . They were supposed to do testing on rats in 2007 , No New Since, HOWEVER they give all the medical data of how some particle in your blood increase by as much as 500 % after cold water Immersion .

Since I have CLL Stage 2 for 7 1/2 years now , I use the cold water , diet , natural supplement , bicycling , running and Medication from Canada to slow down my Leukemia.
I hope you still have the same happiness to swim in cold water.

Here a simple method to cut off the pain in the shoulder and neck is to use a Warming ointment and to cover it with petroleum , I had terrible pain there this here until I use it for my 35' swim.
