Terry,
I read the following and thought immediately of you.
' Sometimes we meet someone who seems to have a great sense of well-being, and we wonder how that person got that way. We would like to be that way. That well-being is often a result of having been brave enough to be fully alive and awake to every moment of life, including all the lack of cheer, all the dark times, all the time when the clouds cover the sun.'
Thank you for being an example that the path is the goal.

By their nature, inspirational posts are rare, but you have given us one, as Sean Murphy says; thank you. Until recently, few people would have believed that physical exercise could impact on cancer risk or outcome, given no evidence of benefit and no recognised mechanisms by which a benefit could be gained. I'm speaking from the perspective of a retired oncologist in support to your actions just in case you encounter scepticism from any medics. They need to distinguish 'no evidence of benefit' reflecting a lack of good research from 'no evidence of benefit' despite high quality research. Until recently, the scepticism was based on the former state, whereas now good quality evidence is accumulating. Second, there is now a wide range of molecular and cellular processes that offer potential links between physical exercise and the behaviour of cancer cells - the scientific journals contain very powerful examples. Examples include links between physical exercise and immunity, between psychological health and immunity and in the last decade, strong evidence for a link between immune processes and the behaviour of cancer. All well and good if you find this rationalisation helpful (perhaps it is more helpful to the doctors looking after you!). Probably the sheer thrill of swimming is justification enough, a miracle in its own right.

Terry you are awesome.

I had the honor of swimming by your side at the Red Sea. It was my best special swim. And I am grateful for the experience you gave me and the words you wrote here.
