This sentence reminded me of my feelings about TI, when I first found it in the mid-1990s: “Rather than focus on teaching the .01% of the population that might win a World Championship, TI coaches strive to teach a proven method that works to countless other people for whom simply swimming with ease and enjoyment would be a great gift.” Starting in the late 1980s there was a great deal of emphasis on measuring the performance of Olympic level athletes. They had computers and body sensors to measure everything. Great for the .01%, but of no use to anyone else. TI taught that you could make great improvements without any of that. Echoing Apple’s ad slogan from the 1980s, TI was “swimming for the rest of us.”
