What a wonderful place to swim in. Given the duration of the swim, I wonder at the impact of water temperature. Here in New Zealand water temperature sinks to mid 8 deg Cel and in summer sits in the mid to high teens depending on where you are. Here, Donal does not support using TI as a method due to the risk of the onset of cold and hypothermia http://loneswimmer.com/2011/10/20/total-immersion-in-marathon-swimming/. Whether it is adaptation or just the short duration, up to 45 min at this stage in these sort of temps, I haven't got to the stage of feeling cold in the water, beyond the cold sensation on the skin.
I would be interested in thoughts on the impact of cold water in longer duration swims, esp for those exceeding an hour.
