Concordia sits just above Salt Pond Bay, overlooking it as well as looking out to Ram Head, on the southern most point on St John. This is a beautiful part of the island, quiet, a little more remote with little car traffic. The swims from this side of the island have sections that are more open and exposed to wind and current. Therefore the swims can be more ambitious, compared to the north side of the island that is more protected by the various bays. Swimmers can expect more challenging swims given the weather and openness of the southern side.

Please note: Participants attending this camp need to be in good cardiovascular/physical condition as some of the swims we will do have start and end points that are not accessible by car and therefore requiring some hiking/walking to and from. However, we do have a swim on the protected bay side, Maho and Cinnamon bays, where we will be shuttling to and from Concordia via taxi. A backpack and water bottle as well as snacks are necessary, so please pack appropriately for your comfort and convenience.

We do have safety in the forefront of our mind, so each swim will have the appropriate boat and kayak support. We will do our part and we want you to do yours to come into this camp in good physical and emotional condition as well as an open mind.

Staying in Concordia is more toward the rustic side, but each tent does have a bathroom and solar shower connected to it for convenience. Each tent also has a propane cookstove, refrigerator, and sink with running water. We found this to be a bit easier for cooking and clean-up and therefore find ourselves cooking and eating in more often.

Travel to Concordia really requires a day of travel. I suggest arriving the day before the camp starts in the event of flight changes as well as allowing ample time to get from the airport on St. Thomas to St John. If your flight arrives any later than 11:00 am on Sunday, the first day of camp, you will not make the first swim session at 3:00. To return home, we suggest booking a late Saturday afternoon flight to allow time to leave Concordia to get back to St. Thomas. Taxis from Concordia before 8:00 AM can be challenging to book. Plus you would miss the "fun" swim Saturday morning.

Two swim sessions are scheduled each day with one being designated as drills and skills, and the second a group swim. The drills and skills sessions will be held at Concordia which is a 15 minute trail walk down to the bay.
