Default New Strokes

I've been coming along very well with my freestyle. Every day that I've been to the pool (1 to 2 hrs, 4 days a week), I've been practicing, skating, under-switch, zen skate and full stroke and have really felt the benefits of my time and patience (something I'm not known for LOL!). I'm swimming tall, using a two-beat kick (don't ask me how it just happened), head down, arms on wide tracks and cutting through the water nicely. Oh, I'm under no illusions that after only two months of practice I'm no where near where I would like to be but even on the bad days of swimming I know exactly when something is not quite right (i.e. poor balance, not enough rotation, head-up etc), but the difference now as to the past when I tried to learn to swim is that I have the tools to correct things :)

Even the lifeguard at my pool who is also a TI enthusiast said that he could see how I looked relaxed and seemed to glide through the water (even better than many in the fast lane!)

Now I'm looking into learning the drills of the other three strokes breast, then back and down the line butterfly. Can some one advise on whether or not it's a good idea to begin the strokes of these new drills while still trying to master freestyle, I'm not looking to do the whole stroke of any one of these yet but I would be interested in doing the drills for the next couple of months?

In my opinion sure or at least that's how I would do it .In fact since free and back are long axis strokes it's not a bad idea to practice them together and the same thing with fly and breast .

I had the same concern when I started doing all four strokes. But since swimming is suppose to be fun and not rigorous, I gave it a try and really liked relearning the other three.

I usually alternate doing freestyle and IM practices now. On freestyle days, I swim very little short axis, and on IM days I do not do my freestyle drills (but the drills for the other three).

For me, I picked up on alot of details that I might otherwise have missed. Breaststroke and fly have a pause while you let your body float to the top which I have also seen in my long axis turns. Backstroke is much harder to balance in for me than freestyle, so I notice my head position and stability better.

The Betterfly video also makes swimming butterfly so much easier than I use to swim it, so I sometimes do what I shouldn't and will try to pace people in the lanes next to me in butterfly for 100-200m which is tough but lots of fun.
