The Gain of Pain or The Advantage of Getting Injured! ;-)
Four weeks ago hit an ice spot with my bike, fell and injured a rib. It wasn't a severe injury, I could actually survive even when I laughed, coughed or sneezed. If you have had an injured rib, you know what I mean. However, I had a pain doing various movements. The first week I was able to swim only if I took it very easy. That made me to go back to do some very basic drills and also to swim slow without effort and very focused on the technique. Lots of Superman Glide and lots of one arm swimming and one finger swimming. Even some high elbow catch.
Last Saturday's full stroke practice felt really awesome. I still took it very easy, but I think I'd never had such a good feeling for the water. Well, maybe as a teenage swimmer, but that was too long ago to remember. The grip in the water, the glide, the ... everything!
Maybe one should get back to basics for some weeks once in a while to get this feeling.
