Default 2 roots to better training

My two best training sessions in the last month have been on days I have made my winter soup (Chicken, stock, one whole blended beetroot, broccoli, onion, carrot, flat leaf parsely, big chunk Ginger root, garlic).

Both of these sessions I have been able to train hard and felt recovered the next day. It seems there is some science research behind this.

The nitrates in the Beetroot can help you train and perform better and the anti-inflammatory properties of the ginger aid recovery.

Here's just two of the articles I found on the subject. You can google for more.

Beetroot

Ginger

Be great if anyone has the time to test this and report back. Try to keep both ingredients fresh not powdered or pickled.

I tried beet root juice (homemade with juicer) last week...an athlete of mine says it's like being on steroids.

I got a pounding migraine taht same night...nitrates are migraine trigger.

I'm gonna lay off the juice.

I do juice with ginger however, but have not correlated it with any training effects.

I've been at a family christening party today and one of the people I was talking to is a horse racing trainer. She said both beetroot and ginger were banned substances for horses in Norway because they artificially improved their performance.

Try the ginger juice (a good sized slab) before a hard muscle session e.g. sprint intervals and see how your shoulders feel the next day, fatigued or refreshed.

downside of the christening was 7 different types of cake on offer.

Default another root

Japanese purple yam, if you need carbs to run 20 and bike a century. They come in bite sizes too, available at Rainbow or larger asian shops in SF.
