Default The Aggregation of Marginal Gains - A western example of Kaizen

Enjoying the first morning of paralympic pool action with excellent commentary from the channel4 team (4 year old off sick from kindergarten so I'm excused).

Towards the end of the show the paralympian co-commentator (Giles Long) mentioned something I heard mentioned in the back end of an interview with Dave Brailsford, head of UK cycling.

He has been attributed with the catchphrase - 'the aggregate of marginal gains', which for me is a nice translation of Kaizen.

here is a brief article from teamsky.

I heard Brailsford say in the TV interview they even take this as far as teaching the cyclists to wash their hands in between their fingers after a toilet break as this means a 1 in 10,000 chance of the sportsman not picking up an infection or virus and missing training time.

Its a great thought to take into masters swimming where we can spend so long making tiny adjustments waiting for the aggregation of these marginal gains to become significant.
