Default A glimpse of The Promised Land

OK, it's a silly title. But tonight I got my first peek into what a core-driven, connected freestyle feels like. For all of about 1/2 a length (25m pool).... but it's a start! It briefly felt like my arms had zero mass - like they were made of neutrinos or something :)

It's all thanks to a recent post by eganov, I now understand all I need to do to engage lats and pecs is make sure the catch/pull goes from shoulder width to "in a bit narrower" (ie. towards hips), and the body's anatomy can't help but engage the right muscles. So, I've finally got a catch that's good enough for now and I've been able to concentrate on connecting it to core rotation - and it feels great when it happens! Also, as a Brucie Bonus, got core to drive spearing arm a bit too.

Thanks eganov! Your simple anatomy lesson helped me.

Just had to vent my bit of progress and good cheer :)
