I dont know much about fly, but I do think the arms arm pushing more water down than in free. Something has to lift bodyparts out the water. Dont know what percemtage can be attributed to undulation and kick action.
In breast the arms must push a lot of water down to get almost the whole upperbody out the water.
Butterfly is somewhere in between free and breast regarding this aspect?
Anyway, fly combines an S pull with zero body roll. A total disaster for the shoulders?

Default Another off topic..

Hello Zenturtle, hello Danny, excuse us novaswimmer...

seems my assumption wasn't totally wrong. Tried it today. It feels easier to ondulate, when the hands are more below body than farther aside. And it feels as if the shoulders are less stressed. When pressing water back it feels as if body going to brake surface is more a side-effect than primary effort... And it is not so far from Betterfly as the two screenshots may show...

Best regards,
Werner

PS: But now it should turn back to your thread, novaswimmer....
