Why can I sink faster when I take a right side breath than left side.

Hello notatall,

there must be some asymmetric parts in your breathing strokes left/right side. Either in timing or in mechanic. Impossible(?) to say what and where particularly without a video. (If you can't take a video let friend have a special look for differences.)

You may be rolling a little more on the right side when you breathe, or you may be breathing a little late in the stroke on that side, both which may cause you to sink a bit .

If you have someone that can video you from both sides and post the video here we might be able to get a better idea.

In the meantime, try being aware of your head position while breathing. If you are lifting your head instead of letting the water support it you actually lower your mouth closer to or into the water. Honestly, it doesn't take much lifting to put your mouth in a position to be inhaling the pool/ocean/lake or give you a 'sinking feeling.'

Also you might want to let yourself be aware of where your lead arm is while breathing to the left and to the right. Also focus on just how far you are rotating each side.

In other words practice some mindful swimming for a bit and you might come up with the answer before you can link video!

Thank you all
The first guess is that I could be rolling too much on the right side, causing sinking and the following lift of my head to get air caused deeper sink.

Go back to basics for your right side breathing. Start out with an easy swim and do the nod drill. Rotate your body until your top goggle is just below the surface. Roll back to swim. wash, rinse repeat. Stop and stand up when you need a breath. From there go to the "whale eye" drill. Easy swim, then rotate until your top goggle just clears the surface. Wash, rinse, repeat. Stop, stand up and breath when you need to. Finally do this again, this time rotate just a bit further than you did for the whale eye and take a breath.

I still use this drill set when I notice my breathing technique slipping.

It refers to the pictures of whales you see with one eye above the water.

Try swimming then rotate your body keeping your head in line. Rotate just enough to get your high (or top) goggle just out of the water. That's almost in position to take a breath.

Let me see if I can find some video or a still at least of it that's properly executed.

To lift one goggle above the surface is to leave a half of a mouth under water, isn’t it so? If so, how do you inhale without letting water in your mouth.
