Default Sprinting Freestyle

My daughter is a 13 year old age group swimmer who has worked with a TI coach for 4.5 years and she has been very successful with all four strokes. When people look at her swim they often comment she has a great feel for the water -- something I believe has come from TI based drills and discussions on swimming more efficiently.

Her favorite events are the 50 and 100 free. Recently, she is finding that she sprints faster with a very different arm recovery than the classic TI approach. By reaching her arms higher on the recovery (not straight arm, but not the relaxed bent elbow), she can recover faster and thus stroke faster. While this recovery might take more energy, for a 25 second race it seems worth expending the extra energy because the end result seems to be a faster time.

I wonder if the TI coaches and swimmers out there have any thoughts on how the classic TI freestyle might be best modified for sprinting?

SVOSS,

just my noncoach 2ct: Might it be in the very fast strokes for short distances the thrown forearm is more relaxed than the hanging one in classic TI?

Regards
