Default Using the mind to benefit performance

In another thread the subject of predator/prey or hunter/hunted has been mentioned. I have found that I can make either work for me. This became apparent in my running days originally and certainly applies in the relm of swim meets.
When my role is the prey this really pushes me not to get caught and over the years has resulted in some surprising times. Conversely being the predator pulls me to greater results. After a while I got so I could hold both roles in a positive enabling mindset so there is at no time a negative effect from either role.
Once the race is over I am actually rather shocked at how buzzed I can get with a pleasing time or placement. This however is a different kettle of fish as it is the result that is buzzing me not the doing or for that matter the being a swimmer. While in the race there is a quiet joy of participating.

Hi Grant

Interesting thought. What I could do with is an imaginary prey just ahead and an imaginary predator just behind. Think how beneficial that could be! The question is: can we train our imaginations to produce these imaginary pacemakers?

Indeed Richard. That would be ideal. You continue to add my possibilities.
