Default "Loping" freestyle

.
"Loping" has been discussed/speculated upon previously in this forum. See http://www.totalimmersion.net/forum/...ghlight=loping, and
http://www.totalimmersion.net/forum/...ghlight=loping.

Gary Hall Sr. describes/demonstrates three approaches to freestyle at http://www.theraceclub.net/videos/fr...ght-technique/. He calls these hip driven, shoulder driven, and hybrid. The last is what has been called lope rhythm in this forum.

Is there a question for discussion? I'm not being snarky...what will we be discussing in this thread? :)

Perhaps nothing. Gary Hall's video, in my view, provides insights into questions/speculations/suppositions previously raised on this forum about a certain stroke asymmetry that is fairly frequently seen in elite freestylers (that is, "loping"). Perhaps some of those who participated in the prior discussions (and others who have interest in the matter) may find the Gary Hall video interesting/informative.

Parenthetically, what Gary Hall calls hip driven freestyle will look pretty familiar to those who frequent totalimmersion.net. Imagine it with lower stroke rate and a two beat kick. This might give TI adepts who would like to swim faster food for thought.

Rupert, that is a fascinating video. Thank you for posting it. I agree it addresses (clearly) several topics previously debated here. Gary Hall seems to confirm that a symmetrical TI-style stroke is optimal for distance swimmers. That's a view held by one camp on this forum.
