I've never been anywhere near the Marshall Islands, to my regret. I googled because I wondered what language they spoke. The closest I've ever been was Hawaii, where I also was fascinated by the language, but also frustrated because it seemed very difficult. But then I was only there for a week on vacation. It sounds like you've got a great situation for yourself!

Danny,

I sent you an email with a link to my Marshall Islands blog in case you're interested. I've been trying to learn a little Marshallese every day, but it is hard for a Westerner to get the sounds right. Fun, though!

Ijaje kajin majol (I don't speak Marshallese)

Not too much yet, anyway.
