Default Winter Swim

This morning was our Christmas Biathlon Relay (running & swimming). It's been storming for 3 days. Our water doesn't really get cold. It was about 75 degrees. We swim in a very large lagoon during the winter so we don't get the entire open ocean experience, thank goodness.

I tried to have a focus point, but I had a hard time keeping my mind on it. I remembered Terry's words from last year. As the conditions become rougher I should become calmer. I just started saying to myself "calm" and "relax." That helped. I would hit the "zone" until I got knocked around again. Then it was "calm" and "relax" again.

On a funny note; I was trying to practice "sneak peeks" for navigating. I spotted the turn buoy, swam for awhile, peek, spot, swim. I wondered why they buoy wasn't getting any closer. I thought I'd better take a better look. What I thought was the turn buoy was a swimmer in front of me with an orange-red cap.

I'm so jealous... it's -29 ºC/-18 ºF here right now and open water swimming seems such a long way off. Le sigh...
That's funny about the cap. I had a disastrous race last year which was held in a small man-made lake. Everywhere you looked there were yellow plastic pedal boats and kayaks moored outside people's private docks - so of course the organizer brought buoys in the exact same shade of yellow. I had to keep lifting my head to decide which yellow blob was the one to swim around.
