Same for me. I haven't been able to swim 100 yds in under 1:10 in years. I do have hopes though of regaining that speed in a few months.

Seriously I get all you say and appreciate the time you took to formulate such thoughtful feedback.

Taken to heart.

Dont stop your blogs Pat, we are out here reading and thinking. Feed back is good I know but many of us feel we are beginners with nothing new to offer.

Thanks to your description of Terry's gentle lessons you've taken my swimming back to the future. By that I mean that I was bogged down and not making progress but I realise now that I was trying harder in an effort to escape the rut, wrong. You and Terry have taken me back to swimming basics and I've recently had some marvellous, gentle swims which I only ended because I was getting cold. I've saved the swimming parts of your first three blogs, pardon me if I skip the lengths and exercises till winter forces me back to the pool. Terry would rightly point out that I have no measure but I know it feels good.

By the way it's totally incidental whether you are a boy or girl.

Ken

It's really easy to be offended, and to offend, when writing in forums. It think that leads to some interactions that as a generalizaiton, women are simply not interested in taking part in.

I've learned, through several years of postign at beginner triathlete, that it's frequently best to let someone else have the last word. Just as in a conversation you pause and let others speak their view, on a forum, rebutting every rebuttal or objecting to every objection repeatedly can get tiring.

That does happen here.

I LOVE the threads where people talk about the amzing things they've experienced and learned about TI...the things they think about while swimming that makes swimming so much more than a sport or activity to keep us occupied.

I also LOVE the math of SPL & Tempo...but hte suggestions to make it more visually appealing are noted. I think taht when you have such a long career in swimming like Terry does, the intervals & send offs begin to simply be a part of your vocabulary.

But certainly there is ample room for sets without all the math as I think are posted here often. People do tend to gravitate towards Terry's workout sets, so maybe a mix of teh math ones along with some more descriptive ones could encourage more input from women.

Although really, I have no issues personally posting on nearly any forum (except slowtwitch). So I'm not sure what could be done to encourage more.

I'll say that I do miss the Total Swim email newsletter with featured stories...perhaps a resurrection of that newsletter with more articles by women could bring more female swimmers in the forums to discuss.
