![]() thats nice footage.
I am a little disappointed in Paltrienies swim style. He looks really paralysed from the waiste down. 1500m of pull buoy swimming with all upperbody action. Jaeger almost got him at the end of the race in Doha too. Paltrinieri has to be in great shape in 2016 to win gold. |

![]() Hi Zenturtle
I thought Jaeger looked very good throughout. I would have liked some underwater footage but having lots of videos almost immediately after the meet is very nice. Rio is still quite a long way away. Have you seen the footage of Ledecky setting a new American record for 100 SCY? |

About Gregorio uneven splits, I guess he's not used to swim this distance and, being a 1500s specialist and one who typically goes fast from the beginning, he went out a bit too fast in the first 1000. Curiously enough, if you look at the link I provided above (sorry it's only in italian), in the 2nd place we find Federico Vanelli, which instead is a long distance specialist (swims mostly the 5k and 10k ow, 4th in the 5k at Kazan and qualified for Rio 2016, in the 10k at Kazan was faster than Mellouli, not a slow guy). Well, Gregorio left him behind by almost 2 minutes :) Lastly, what impresses me the most of this performance is the avg 100m pace: 1:01. If in the 1500s you still have a little anaerobic component in your pace, I suppose (not sure though) a 5km is totally aerobic, right? That means that it is still possible to swim 100m in 1 minute in a totally aerobic fashion... how inefficient the majority of us is, no? About my age, I'm 38. Cheers, Salvo |

![]() Yep, same for all the others. As Richard said, Rio is still far. Horton seemed to be in great shape before Kazan, at last he didn't even qualify for the final in the 1500s.
By the way, it also will be interesting to follow the ow races at Rio, since they'll swim in the sea (not in those super flat waters as in Kazan or London) and we will see a great variety of strokes in action. Salvo Last edited by s.sciame : 12-15-2015 at 08:13 AM. |

![]() Hello Salvo
I wondered, too, if the 14:08 had taken its toll on Gregorio. Recently I read an article about Kieren Perkins and his coach, who was of the opinion that a 1500 swimmer had only one record swim in him per year and that Perkins had ruined his chances for the Olympics by swimming a world record time too early. I'll try to find it again. It was my impression in 2008 that both Hackett and Cochrane had swum too fast in the preliminaries and thus allowed Mellouli to dart in in an outside lane, but these things must be very difficult as nowadays they have to swim under 15 minutes to be relatively sure of a lane in the final and no doubt they are a bit excited and can easily swim too fast. It seems that Paltrinieri was not intending to swim that world record but just felt good on the day. Ledecky has done the same, beating the world record in the preliminaries. By the way her recent swim was a 1000 yards not 100. I accidentally left a zero out. |

![]() Can anybody explain me Jaegers Parkinsons technique when he has his arm maximally extended?(Dual in the pool)
A lot of those swimmers do weird things with their extended hands. Paltrinieri fading during the race in strokecount from 17 to 18,5, Jaeger form 12 to 15,5. What does that tell us? Last edited by Zenturtle : 12-16-2015 at 05:22 PM. |
