![]() As a tech and engineer in this field since the late 70s
six sigma is so 80's (but looks good on a resume... and Academe is selling it though it predates iso900X etc) you might find interest in doing searches on Muda, and Demand Flow Technology. these I think are where the state of the art is... what holds DFT back for application across the line (outside of manufacturing) is managements and Academe lack of understanding and incentive. |

![]() My interest is quite peripheral in Sigma Six, DFT or other measures of process quality in manufacturing. Except that W.E. Deming the godfather of quality also popularized the term Kaizen when his statistical methods were embraced by the Japanese after US companies rejected them in the 1950s. We all know what happened next.
What caught my eye was the example of the universality of what Black Belt stands for.

![]() TI could lead the way to the adoption of the belt system in sports other than the martial arts.
I'm a black belt in golf. I'm a black belt in water polo. I'm a black belt in triathlon. I'm a black belt in archery. I'm a black belt in track and field. I'm a black belt in cycling. I'm a black belt in bowling. --or not. mjm |

These are all just generic activities. TI isn't generic. It's a Way of swimming, with a distinct philosophy and culture. Just as Aikido is a Way or School of martial arts. Removed from that context it makes far less sense.
