Default Cold Sores and public swimming pools.

This question is not so much about the spreading of cold sores in public swimming pools but about the best way to treat an existing cold sore (although both topics are welcome here). My most immediate need is this...I want to swim! I've interupted my regular training (swimming 2 to 3 times per week) because I have a cold sore. I'm really tired of not swimming but I don't want to make the sore worse or spread it to others, of course.

What can I do?

Have you ever talked to your doctor about it? There are prescription ointments, such as Zovirax, that shorten the duration of a cold sore.
