![]() I am new too the breaststroke, an was wondering if I should maintain tension in my core during the complete stroke. I have attempted to do this, but find it difficult, when my head pop up to breathe my core will release.

![]() I'm not clear on what you mean by maintaining tension in your core. Maintaining tension is the opposite of relaxing, which means that you're going to be wasting lots of energy if you try to maintain tension. What you do want to do is avoid bobbing your head up and down. Instead, focus on letting the movement of your core body lift your head just enough to breathe.
