Hmm... not sure about. Have to give it a try. Just from watching, I think it forces a diagonal kick to the opposite arm to catch (if
we do). But what we do need is a well timed kick to the catch or (when timed a little later) to the press phase on the same side. Diagonal we do need the kick for supporting the spear. But just for trimming the right muscles and the awareness of couplings/connections it may be good...
