I use to swim a bit souther than that, much cleaner water. I also like to swim in Castelgandolfo lake (it's quite known to be the place where the Pope lives in summer): the lake is clean and there are also some handy 1km cables which should be used by kayakers for training and races, but I often use them for swimming.
Brisbane has to be a lovely place to live and do any kind of sport.
