gogglesnoseplugs, a jammer or a speedo will decrease drag. Your swim buddy is right. Think of board shorts as a huge parachute strapped onto your hips. The more streamlined your body is the better you are able to move through the water. I'm not a fan of tight fitting clothing in general but in the water, the tighter the better!
