Default Hip drive into spearing

Think of a good baseball swing- You don't hit the ball and then spring the hips. Initiate the spearing from the hips and it will help you find the right angle in spearing. Doing this in reverse will actually use different muscles and move the shoulder joint through a very different range of motion that is mor prone to injury.
