Simplify

Sherry: you sure know how to complicate stuff.

1. If you swim at a "slow" stroke rate (e.g. 1 stroke every 1.4 seconds) and breathe every 2 strokes, you are taking about 20 breaths per minute....

Head

Have to agree with Andy. Your head moves a little left when you breathe. Check out this video--my favorite. Watch the head from 1:13 on. Just a little more interesting than fishing. ...

Breathing

Gotta give you props, Talvi, for persistence, analysis, and getting the most feedback (even from Shinji and Terry !!!) of any poster on this forum in a long time. Yet from what you report you swim...

Still Head

John: check out this video of TI Coach Mandy in an endless pool. Her head is so steady she could almost balance a glass of water on it. Something to strive for. ...

Non propulsive

John: as you can see this is a non-propulsive point in your stroke. Ideally at this point your left arm would have already started to catch water. See the "Aussie Catch" as some guy named A....

Fore - Aft Balance

Johnny: just for fun, compare you body position to Shinji and Terry at approximately the same time in the stroke. Then, compare your left hand which has already reached full extension with Shingi's...

Tinkerer

Sherry: it IS easy to become a tinkerer: watch You Tube videos, read forums, embrace the latest focal point. Yet you got the best feedback from a super TI coach, Gary Fahey. Isn't he the same guy...

Head follows stroking arm

Sclim/Tom: this still is from latest video. Stroking arm wide, head follows, torso follows head and torqued about 45 degrees. Recovering elbow past midline. Still a powerful, powerful stroke even...

Head Stuff

You have had some great feedback on your swims so if I am repeating something please disregard. In "Tom.jpg (1st photo on left) I see the head following the stroking left arm so much so that your...

Hip Driven?

Novaswimmer I have struggled to understand hip drive/weight shift as well. and how it helps forward progress. TI coaches seem to use the terminology and apparently it works and works very...

Left Arm: Shingi vs Thorpe

Shingi's left arm position has always puzzled me. Compare it to Ian Thorpe. I'm not indicating that one is better than the other, just that the comparison is interesting. Thorpe's fingers point to...

Rottnest Channel Swim 2015

Unfortunately, Shinji Takeuchi DNF. Maybe he will have a report once he recovers from the race. The conditions were "brutal" according to some swimmers. The overall winner from New Zealand, Kane...

I agree with you Dan. Everyone is an experiment of one. It's also more than likely that, if asked, Coach Dave and Coach Mat would agree with each other concerning technique and strength.
