Coaches: what do you use to record underwater

What type of camera or iPhone case do you use to record underwater and is there a software you prefer to use for editing? Looking to become certified and currently on a budget. Thank you in advance.

I have a camcorder which allows you to feed in an external input (e.g., from an underwater camera). But it seems to be harder nowadays to find camcorders that take external inputs.

I also have a GoPro camera that can be used while it's inside a waterproof case.

GoPro Hero6 recording in 4K to allow to zoom in (crop) using Final Cut Pro X

Hello saloncolorist,

used a GoPro with waterproof case too, edited with a cheep video-program and satisfying results. What I did like had been the tripod aids with suckers. Mounted on the tiles it had been possible to take videos of my own allone. But since two years taking videos or photos at the pool is strictly forbidden in all pools in town :-((

BTW: Are there free versions of Coach's eye available anywhere... or at least a fixed buyable? I don't like mandatory subscription software...

Best regards,
Werner

I am also using iPad with a Lifeproof case. Sometimes the water presses on the screen making iPad react, e.g., stop the recording, but most of the time it works. This is a very handy way to give students quick feedback.

Werner, I am also using Coach's Eye while filming on the iPad. I found out that to get full quality you need to have to pay a subscription fee. Like you, I generally don't like that business model, but in this case I see no alternative and I think it's worth the cost.

Yes if you're working with videos regularly, but here in Hamburg taking photos or videos is strictly forbidden :-(( and for the one or two times a year, when a student and I can dive under pool attendants' "radar", risking sacking... Think I'll go the cumbersome way with my cheap video-editor....

Best regards,
Werner

I use cheap Gopro clones from Amazon from Lightdow:

If filming yourself, I use a suction cup mount similar to this:

If I film someone else, I stick it on a handle:

I don't use any video editing software except for Coach's Eye when i want to make comments.
